This very rare Gordon Russell & Geoffrey Dunn sideboard produced for Heals in 1951, features a classic mid-century modern design with functional elements and high-quality materials. Inspired by the Danish Mid-Century designs, this particular piece echos similarities to a sideboard by Henry W. Klein for Bramin.

The sideboard is constructed with a rectangular box-shaped body sitting on four tapering legs, each sloping laterally. The legs have curved outer sides and straight inner sides, adding visual interest to the design.

It has two hinged doors on either side of the front, with a fall-front compartment in the centre. Below the fall-front are two drawers, one stacked above the other, providing ample storage space for various items. The doors are decorated with vertical grooves, adding texture and visual appeal to the front facade of the sideboard.

The top, back, and sides of the sideboard are veneered with mahogany on birch plywood, providing a rich and elegant appearance. The structural parts of the internal are made from solid mahogany and beech, ensuring durability and stability.

The cupboard doors and fall-front are crafted from laminated pine core veneered in mahogany, combining strength with a beautiful finish. The drawer fronts, sides, and backs, as well as the drawer handles, are made from solid mahogany, ensuring quality craftsmanship. The drawer bases are constructed from birch plywood for added strength. The top central drawer is fitted with a divider made from birch plywood covered in felt, allowing for organised storage of smaller items. The inside surface of the fall-front is laminated in Formica, providing a smooth and durable work surface.

A great example of early British Modernism, this sideboard exemplifies mid-century modern design principles with its clean lines, functional storage solutions, and use of high-quality materials. It serves as a stylish and practical addition to any living or dining space.

It’s in fantastic, clean condition for it’s age. The legs on the left hand side have been previously repaired by some screws, these will be finished professionally and hidden.
